US Mobile Giants Unite for Advanced Network APIs

A groundbreaking collaboration between AT&T, T-Mobile US, and Verizon promises to reshape the mobile landscape. Through their joint venture, Aduna, these industry titans will launch two advanced network APIs for Number Verification and SIM Swap this year.

This initiative, facilitated by Ericsson and backed by a consortium of telco investors, offers developers and enterprises access to standardized, carrier-grade network capabilities. The APIs aim to enhance security, reduce fraud risks, and streamline authentication processes.

Telefónica Streamlines Spending, Advances Automation

Telefónica is tightening its purse strings, targeting a capex budget ratio of less than 12.5% of revenues in 2025. This cost-conscious approach comes as the Spanish telco giant announced positive full-year results for 2024, with revenue and EBITDA growth.

Beyond financial figures, Telefónica is making strides in its Autonomous Network Journey (ANJ) program. The company is leveraging AI-driven analysis to optimize network performance in real-time and aims to achieve Level 4 autonomy by 2025, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.

While pursuing automation, Telefónica is also looking to streamline its operations in Latin America, having recently sold its business in Argentina and potentially seeking deals for its Mexican operations.

Verizon Blasts Off with Record-Breaking 5G Uplink Speed

Verizon has shattered the US mobile uplink speed record, achieving an impressive 480 Mbit/s. This feat, accomplished in partnership with Ericsson and Qualcomm, utilizes advanced technologies such as TDD carrier aggregation, C-band spectrum, and uplink MIMO.

Srini Kalapala, Senior VP of Technology and Product Development at Verizon, underscores the importance of faster uplink speeds for emerging applications like smart surveillance, industrial automation, and AI: "The work we are doing to drive uplink speeds is a key variable that will allow our customers to take advantage of these AI applications on our network."

Meta Dismisses Speculation of Massive AI Datacenter Investment

Meta has labeled a report suggesting a $200 billion investment in a US AI datacenter campus as "pure speculation." The company reiterated its previously announced 2025 investment plan, which involves a more modest increase in spending.

This rumor comes amidst a flurry of major tech investments, including Apple's $500 billion US spending plan and the unveiling of the $500 billion Stargate Project for AI infrastructure.
